Print your desserts
Helllllooooo and welcome to this weekās issue of the Land of Random.
We had a busy week last week - one weekend we spent in Cleveland TN, this weekend we celebrated our sonās second Birthday!
If you live anywhere near Tennessee - I recommend making a daytrip to visit the Lodge Cast Iron museum + store.
They have super discounted factory defect cast iron for veryyy cheap.
I got a 13 inch pan, and a 5 quart dutch oven for like $45ish bucks!
It was ALSO a wild week on the internet last week - with Netflix announcing the end of its DVD service
Elon getting rid of all the legacy blue checks,
People going WILD with Snapchat AI
And donāt even get me started on that insane Unrecord trailer that may start an entire genre in gaming all by itself.
A game that feels so realistic it hurts your head? Yeah. Watch it.
Iāve been thinking about adding little interviews as some of the āmain topicsā when I have a chance. Would yāall be interested if I interview guests for the newsletter once in a while?
Letās dive in, shall we?
š«Printing Chocolate
Iāve written about Cocoa Press before, but itās FINALLY available for preorder - and itās going to be a side hustle goldmine.
Ah, so you like to make money do ye?
Well, for the next few years - you could probably print money with the Cocoa Pressās chocolate 3D printer.
Same 3D files as a normal 3D printer, same tools to print the chocolate . . .
The custom orders alone from restaurants could CRUSH.
why yes another 30 chocolate plates for next week? Of course.
50 army men for the bakery for those birthday cakes?
And so on . . .
Check out the printer.
Looks very similar to a normal 3D printer - but this time - your mistakes are EDIBLE.
The first set on sale is the DIY kit - aimed at 3D printing enthusiasts.
For this one - you gotta print a lot of the pieces in order to get started.
Please note that the Cocoa Press DIY kit is intended for users with prior 3D printing experience, as it requires assembly and 3D printing your own parts. Assembly is estimated to take around 10 hours. No previous electronics experience is required. (source)
At $1500, itās a lot cheaper than buying the $3000+ professional kit.
They plan to add an option to buy the 3D-printed pieces at checkout - but iām not sure how much this adds to the $1500 price.
What about the chocolate?
You can buy special cartridges - or experiment with your own chocolate to see what works. I appreciate that they donāt lock in the printer to prevent such experimentation.
Thereās nothing worse than spending a lot on gadgets that prevent you from āgoing off the grid.ā
One could even say that it goes completely against the ethos of the 3D printer space.
Check out the Cocoa Press at the link!
šØCreating an Internet Canvas
Many dream of being able to just ācreateā on the internet.
Wouldnāt you want a digital medium with the expressive ease of paper? - XHfloz
Free from the restrictions of WordPress, Squarespace, or other such programs.
Tools like Elementor or Webflow have arrived in more recent years to satisfy such cravings - but at the expense of lots of time to learn the tools.
XH wants to make a place on the internet where people can create digital spaces without having to get too technical.
Since its launch in 2021 - mmm.page has improved in leaps and bounds. Itās easy to use, and getting more powerful every update.
It even spawned a clone competitor called Poxi.Page
You know youāre on to something when the clone competitors show up . . .
Anyway, XH outlined a few ideals for mmmās vision. Here are my favorite two.
āGenuinely mixed media. Add anything you want: images, text, videos. Embed services too: maps, music, IDEs, iFrames of other websites. Even draw directly on it.
Flexible for any use. It should feel natural for a wide variety of uses. The medium itself shouldnāt imply any use. E.g., the same 8.5āĆ11ā can be a handwritten note, or a flyer, or scratch paper.ā (source)
The idea that the medium āshouldnāt imply any useā is pretty fascinating - one that weāve seen taken by many whiteboard apps over the past few years.
Excalidraw and Kinopio.club certainly come to mind.
mmm.page is just the website version of this vison.
Blank digital paper to create whatever youād like.
The next part of this digital vision is mmm.town - which will be pretty cool when it comes out.
Digital Paper - but with a community layer.
