The Robots Can Write
They said that the robots can't write or think. They were wrong
Robots are not intelligent. In fact, they cannot even use language.
"They cannot speak English. They are really incapable of being human.
"They have no language and therefore cannot communicate with one another.
"There are three main aspects (of their communication systems): the ability to read, the ability to respond and the ability to act."
Professor Peter Higgs said he was "sick of the robots".
"I'm sick of these robots being used as test subjects in my research and I'm sick of them being the ones who are going to be killed off in my lifetime," he said.
"These robots are being used in labs all over the place, and one of them is being used as a test subject in my research."
'The future will belong to the machines'
In case you were wondering (and worrying) - Where in the world is all this coming from??? you might ask. Other than the sentence in bold - A AI wrote this. 😀
Have you heard of OpenAI’s new machine learning model - the GPT 2?
Basically - it’s a AI program that can write.
Here’s their explanation.
We’ve trained a large-scale unsupervised language model which generates coherent paragraphs of text, achieves state-of-the-art performance on many language modeling benchmarks, and performs rudimentary reading comprehension, machine translation, question answering, and summarization—all without task-specific training. (Source)
In essence, they taught a robot how to write by making it read thousands and thousands of articles - and it’s decent at doing so.
AND - They were so scared by how good it became - They won’t release the full model.
Seriously. They are terrified of the fake news and other things that could be written.
I encourage you to play around with it. You will love it! Adam King (a Machine Learning Engineer) put this website together to demonstrate some of the capabilities of OpenAI’s project.
🎉🎉Instagram’s got a new App (in Beta)
Looks like Facebook’s favorite son Instagram is going against Snapchat (Facebook. again? - Remember Slingshot? ) with a brand new app called Threads.
You remember that close friends list you made on Instagram so you could send them your Story posts you didn’t care to share with everyone?
Well. Instagram wants to take those relationships to the next level. Verge reports that Facebook is testing a app based around you and your close friends. I encourage you to read their article for all the spicy deets.
