šŸ„Shoes Made from Mushrooms, Vaporwave Cassettes, and Digital Candy

Hey friends! I hope y’all are doing awesomely this week.

Merry Christmas, by the way! šŸŽ„

I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family. Let me know if you get anything super cool for Christmas. Personally, I asked for a Google Stadia so I can play Cyberpunk 2077.

I’ve waited 8 dang years for this game. I don’t care if it has bugs. I’ve graduated from High School, College, had two career changes, gotten married, and had a baby.

I’m. Playing. It.

It’s crazy to think that 2020 is nearly over. It’s gone by so fast.

Oh - it’s been a while since I’ve shared this, but if you’d like to follow some of my daily randomnesses, you can find me on Twitter @land_ofrandom

I’ve got a lot of goodies for you today . . .

If you’re looking for some last minute one dollar digital stocking stuffers, my friend Andrew Kamphey has you covered. There’s some cool stuff on this list!

Are you ready?

šŸ„Get Some Mushroom Shoes

Where do shoes go when they die? Mostly to the landfill to live forever.

If only there were shoes that were biodegradable . . .

Well, now there are!

Mycl is making shoes and other products from mycellium. It’s fabricated as a natural leather style fabric, and used to construct wallets, shoes, and other products.

Here’s the technical details on the fabric according to their Mycellium spec sheet. It sounds like a pretty complex process.

The Mycelium leather structure includes a direct-bonded enforcement of fabric to enhance tear strength of the material. The leather comes with natural brown-ish color while for black, it is naturally dyed. The leather structure itself consists fully of natural layers of mycelium fibre that create a solid and strong bond. (Source)

I’m not sure how much of the shoe is made from mushroom leather, but I’d wager at least the whole upper portion of the shoe. Sadly, it’s sold out at the moment. Here’s what it looks like. (Source)

Pretty cool right? I imagine that they plan to create jackets and other garments at some point. I’m pretty excited about this tech. The more we can replicate current clothing technology to create sustainable products - the better!

šŸ“¼Vaporwave Cassettes

I’ve discovered a fascinating underground scene of music. Yes - yes we know about the Youtube Vaporwave playlists, Spotify playlists, and underground artists on Soundcloud.

But, did you know about the ones on Bandcamp?

Yessss. There’s tons of very cool Vaporwave albums on Bandcamp . . . and they have physical merch.

Look . . . just look at all this beautiful modern nostalgia. These are all limited edition cassettes, and they’re dirt cheap too.

The digital albums are insanely dirt cheap too! For example, you can buy all 282 digital releases of Business Casual for as low as 1 DOLLAR. Here. See for yourself

Can you imagine how much fun it would be to get out a cassette player at a party and say ā€œI’m going to play some Vaporwave music?ā€ Here’s some merch by the power_lunch_foundation. (Source)

For example, there is only one copy of that Noire Shadow Edition Cassette by VHSRelay left, and it’s got some great vibes.

Here. Listen to some samples here. Heck, maybe that one copy is left?

Noire

Business Casual has some really great cassettes too.

This stuff is absolutely fascinating. I knew about Vaporwave Vinyl - but had no idea where to purchase such stuff.

I had to go deep on Twitter to find out.

I managed to stumble across this post which was retweeted by a Vaporwave account I follow.

If you preordered the vinyl of @tvvinpinezm4ll ā€œonly posers fall in loveā€ your package will ship before 2021. If you order today, your copy will ship the first week of January. Limited run of 100 copies! powerlunch.bandcamp.com/album/only-pos…

And I was off to the races! It’s a much larger subculture than I anticipated, so - honestly, this is just an introductory post to the topic. I’ll deep dive for sure in the near future.

For now - you know what I know. 😁

šŸDigital Candy

Don’t worry - you can actually buy and eat this candy.

Sugar Lab makes 3D printed candy that you can enjoy - or just look at. They are definitely a great conversation starter at a get together. For example, take a look at these sugar cubes. They’re ornate, complicated, and attention grabbing. (Source)

They literally beg the question - how in the world are these made

Here’s the brief bio of Sugar Lab

The Sugar Lab is the world's first true digital bakery, run by a small team of rogue chefs, architects-turned-designers, and tech geeks in East Los Angeles. Our chefs imagine, our designers model, and our kitchen 3D prints.

So cool! The infusion of tech into food. Imagine bigger versions of these that you could use as props for your cakes. You could take a modest dessert to the next level!

I think we’re going to see 3D printing make more and more inroads into the world of cooking. How cool would 3D printed bread, pasta or pastry shells be?

or a sugar cube model car you could build with your kids? For example, they have these awesome looking snowmen you can put together.

They also make custom designs too - so if you wanted a custom 3D printed sugar model of the Eiffel Tower - they could make that.

Check out their cool creations at the link!
