Hey everyone! How’s your Monday shaping up?
I’m a bit frustrated this Monday - It doesn’t look like we’ll be closing on the house we’re trying to buy here in Tennessee.
However . . . there’s still a possible scenario in which it works out.
If not - we’ll be having a fun time scrambling to find a new place to live further away from Franklin - because rent here STARTS at 2K a month now for a 2BR.
yayyyyyyyyyyy
By next Monday - I’ll have a more definitive update for you.
Looks like Elon’s deal won’t be going through at Twitter. It’ll be interesting to see how this all turns out . . .
Did you hear that Popcorn Time has returned? There’s some new notes in the Android Repo. As a likely global recession nears - I’m very curious to see if Piracy begins to return . . .
Subscriptions are often one of the first things to go when money gets tight.
Remember the days when Grooveshark was a mainstream bootleg music platform?
It’s still hard to believe that those days existed . . .
We’ve been enjoying the latest season of Westworld. It’s really good! It almost feels like season 4 is a return to roots a la season 1. It’s so good.
Let’s dive on in!
🍄Mushroom Machines
Ok - so I’ve written about several solutions for growing vegetables in your house - from cutting edge freight farms to low tech hydroponics.
Well - here’s one for growing mushrooms in your own home.
No - not those kinds of mushrooms
Shrooly is a high tech solution for growing shiitake, king oysters, and other kinds of mushrooms from the comfort of your home.
It looks really cool too - definitely something you’d want people to see. It’s the thrill of showing off a bonsai tree, but you can eat it.
I didn’t know this about mushrooms - but they have a REALLY fast growing time - 7 days! You could eat fresh mushrooms every week with one of these.
Shrooly sells pre prepared “bricks” (fruiting blocks) that they say you can harvest from 2 - 3 times. Each brick costs $12.
It would be really interesting to break down the cost-benefit analysis of each crop.
I’ll take a stab at it?
At my local Kroger - 5 oz of Shiitake mushrooms costs $5.79 + tax. If I can gather at least 5 oz from each “crop,” I save $3-4 dollars by growing my own shiitake.
Not to mention - You can buy bricks with other varieties like Lion’s Mane that are not as easy to find at grocery stores. That’s a big benefit.
The Shrooly has some smart features too! It has a little e-ink display where you can change settings - and you can monitor your mushrooms via the app too. You can also message the Shrooly support team if you need help.
Shrooly is currently available on Indiegogo. Go check it out!
🧑💻The Pocket Reform
How do you feel about kawaii mini laptops?
No - I don’t mean those mid 2000’s CURSED notebook Windows laptops that stopped working after a year.
I’m talking aestheticcs
Isn’t that the coolest little laptop? Yeah - the screen is only 7 inches - but that’s not toooo small.
It’s the perfect laptop for many small tasks - like writing emails, notes in a class or meeting, or browsing the web.
I’d be willing to try out this laptop as my backup laptop since it comes from MNT. They’re a “diverse team of designers, engineers and communication specialists developing open source hardware, software and textiles in Berlin, Germany.“
Their previous computer is the MNT Reform - a full size laptop that you can easily repair / change out the batteries. It’s designed to be upgraded and modded throughout your usage!
It’s heavy duty - check out the specs on it.
The Pocket Reform has the same open source vision - but in a smaller compact size.
Oh is it getting slow? Just unscrew it and change out the RAM. Batteries only lasting a few hours? Change those out.
BOOM.
I’m looking forward to seeing the reviews of the Pocket Reform when it comes out!

❓The Nothing Phone
One Plus used to be a refreshing innovator in the Android phone space. Their phones were affordable, fash, specced out, and cool.
They even promoted the first phone with a viral “we’ll give away 100 free phones to people if they smash their old ones on camera” challenge.
One Plus phones are still good - but they don’t stand out the same way they used to. In my opinion, they peaked with the One Plus 7 Pro.
Many agree with this sentiment - if Marquee Brownlee’s review from 3 years ago is any indication. Just look at the comments.
Well, the vision that One Plus brought to the Android game is being renewed, with none other than the Oneplus cofounder Carl Pei.
Nothing’s first product was a really cool pair of earbuds.
Now - they’ve set their sights on making the freshest and most innovative Android phone.
They want to simplify tech to be easy to use yet beautiful.
LET’S TALK ABOUT NOTHING . . . Imagine a world where all of your devices are seamlessly connected. Tech that just works. That you don’t have to think about. That feels like nothing (last one, we promise) . . . To do this, we’re crafting intuitive, flawlessly connected products that improve our lives without getting in the way.
No confusing tech-speak. No silly product names. Just artistry, passion and trust. (source)
It’s a bold vision - and one that we’ve heard before.
Remember the failed Essential phone from Andy Rubin?
or that bizarre Gem prototype that looked like a remote.
It was supposed to be the best and brightest Android phone back in the day . .
Well, Pei actually bought the remnants of the Essential company.
The Nothing phone looks pretty interesting - and the company is having a big event on the 12th to tell us all about it.
Here’s what Marquee Brownlee was allowed to share
There’s some really cool lights on the back that will glow for different notifications, and it has wireless charging so you can reverse charge to your nothing earbuds.
The question is - is the software also revolutionary?
That’s the kicker.
It’s recently been announced that the Nothing phone is partnering with the blockchain company Polygon.
It could just be hype - or it could be a really sick advancement for crypto integrations. Who knows?
I’m looking forward to hearing more on Tuesday’s announcements!

The Buy Now Pay Later Bubble
Just as the drums beat deep in the mines of Moria, the drums beat for the whole new “Buy Now Pay Later” market like Affirm. They’re all gonna break . . . eventually.

I’ve seen many of these tutorials - but this one actually looks fairly simple. I’m gonna try this out when I have time/money.
Teeny Tiny Robots
The nanobots are coming, slowly, but surely. This roboy is so tiny, it looks like a bug.
Wiby Search Engine
This retro search engine is pretty cool. From the about: “The Wiby search engine is building a web of pages as it was in the earlier days of the internet. In addition, Wiby helps vintage computers to continue browsing the web, as pages indexed are more suitable for their performance.“ I like it better than Google so far for obscure searches.

The Land of Web3
Aiko Virtual is likely the last NFT Project that I’ll be purchasing from for a while. The road map is interesting - and it’s part of my diversification strategy to see “who makes it.” i’m always a fan of anime aesthetic projects - and can’t afford an Azuki. They have plans to create merch, support artists, and do events all over the world.
