Mr. Werewolf, Crypto Art, and Procedural Generation!

Hey everyone! 👋

Buckle up, cuz it’s Art, Art, and more Art today. (It’s a bit long. I’m sorry. I got really excited).

ART??? What kind of boring newsletter is this?🤣🤣🤣

Don’t worry! You won’t be bored at all. 👍

Let’s get started!

Mr. Werewolf

Have you ever heard of Dieselpunk? It’s kind of like Steampunk - but it’s focused on diesel engines. Basically, the genre applies modern/futuristic technologies and ideas to the world of the 1920’s-1950’s.

Basically - Dieselpunk asks the “What if?” question to the WWI era. What if they had giant robots? What if they had crazy flying battleships?

There are some really cool artists, literature, and books featuring the genre, but today we will be talking about the amazing Mr. Werewolf, also known as Jacob Rozalski. He’s best known for his work on the Scythe board game, and the upcoming Iron Harvest videogame.

His art is beautiful. It juxtaposes the normal with the fantastical, what we know with what is beyond our wildest dreams/nightmares.

"The youngest sister"💪🏻new painting from my 1920+ world and upcoming @iron_harvest video game. Introducing one of my favorite Polanian mech, heavy anti-mech unit, "Łowca"💥 #ironharvest #worldof1920 #illustration #painting #storytelling #jakubrozalski #art #gameart

This is a perfect example of his art style. It seems pastoral until your eyes hit the MASSIVE MECHA WAR MACHINE. The best part is that the person is waving - so it’s a friendly gesture. Oh, and the background? A dark industrial wasteland.

His art messes with your head - and it’s amazing. 👌

Here’s another example.

🔜GamesCom is Coming! So, if you don’t have any better plans and will be in Cologne, come to the @deepsilver booth, Hall 9! Iron Harvest will be there (you will be able to play the latest version of the game) and I’ll be there as well, doing some interviews, signing stuff and playing @iron_harvest with the team!

It’s wild isn’t it? Each of his art pieces feel like a piece of a story. What is this machine? Is it friendly? Is this man about to attack the machine? 🤔

Who knows. That’s the best part. It keeps you thinking.

I definitely recommend that you check him out! 😊

More Art

Digital Crypto Art

While we’re on the subject - I thought I’d bring up a really cool digital Crypto art website I found. 😁

It’s called Maker’s Place, and you can buy unique digital copies of artwork directly from artists as crypto tokens.

What does that even MEAN? You ask. 😭

Well.

Basically.

Someone creates a digital piece of art. They upload it to the Ethereum blockchain. They make it as a token, and sell 1 copy, or 1000 copies.

It’s a piece of art - and it’s also a unique digitally signed crypto token. If the artist only makes 10 copies, there’s only 10 copies. Someone may copy the picture, but there is no way possible for someone to recreate that unique digital token.

It enables scarcity for art in a way that has been hitherto impossible!

Only want 15 people to own a real, signed, copy of your art, authorized by YOU?

Done. Via Blockchian.

Pretty wild, huh?

Check it out!

Procedural Generation

Have you ever heard of procedural generation?

It’s the latest and greatest way for people to create unique digital art, games, and more!

Basically, you can build computer programs to apply data algorithmically to create random patterns, items, and more.

For example, say you want to create 1000 variations of a game character, but don’t want to spend Lord knows how many hours trying to make them. Well, with procedural generation, you could just give the program the pieces (boots, jacket, shirt, etc.) and different colors, and make it make you 1000 variations. 😲

Pretty cool right?

So, for fun, I’m giving you two links to play around with procedural generation.

This first one is from Nvidia - and it’s a interactive demo of their Gaugan program. It allows people to make realistic landscapes - trees/lakes/mountains/etc with nothing more than a few strokes on the screen.

This second one is a example using anime characters! 👍😁 It’s also much easier to play with than the Nvidia one.
