🏍️I'm Going on Sabbatical

Yep - I'll see y'all next year!

Yes - you read that subject line right.

I’m going on sabbatical from The Land of Random until Fall 2025.

Oh come now - don’t cry. *passes tissue*

I’ll be back - unlike other newsletter writers who just up and stop writing for years then pop up with a WeLl gUeSs WhAt Im BaCk.

It’s just for a year - that’s it!

Why? Why would you stop writing David?

Well - to be honest - I’m tired and burnt out. I’ve been writing this newsletter for 5 years straight, at an average of 8 hours a week.

I’m not feeling too creative these days - and my muse is pretty much dead. (much like this and I’d prefer my muse to regenerate like Alucard as opposed to . . . well).

A lot of my friends and family have openly asked me how I have continued to keep writing over the years and my response is always “dogged determination + will of the spirit.”

I could keep writing too - but I feel like the magic has been wearing off a bit recently. Less pep in my step. The last thing I want to do is to hate writing - and that’s where I’ll get if I don’t take a break.

To borrow some Gen-Z lingo “I’m Cooked.”

Yes - I still like checking out new apps, cool sites, all that good stuff . . . but I need to take a break.

Spend more quality time with my wife and 3 children.

Stop staring at the computer screen so much.

Stop sorting 25,000 links a week.

What’ll I do until then??? you say . . .

Meanwhile . . .

I’m going to take a mental break.

The Newsletter, website, and various Kinopio boards will stay up - I’ll just be updating a few places to say “on Sabbatical.”

My RSS feeds will fill up to a million links (hehe - 25K a week, 100K a month) for me to review when I return. There will be probably 500 good links out of all those.

You’d be surprised at how few interesting things get shared around the internet. It’s mostly WoAh LoOk aT mY StArTuP ClOnE I MaDe - BuY iT NoW.

Start wandering around my link web in Kinopio. Who knows . . . I might start backfilling old links after 6 months of rest or so.

I’ll probably add to Notes from time to time - so it’s worth RSS’ing if you’re into that sort of thing.

I’ll still be around on Twitter a bit, so you can follow me there. Feel free to tag me and ask if I’ve happened to see anything interesting and I’ll send ya something. If enough people message me - I’m down to have a little group chat there haha.
