🍕Get Random Pizzas every month, Embrace Winamp Nostalgia, and Discover New Music!
Discover Music the Instagram Way
Hey everybody! How’s your week going?
It’s hard to believe - but it’s finally September. Fall is finally here! 🎃
Time to break out the jackets, long sleeve shirts, pumpkin spice, and Apple Cider. Fall has always been my favorite season - especially since I live in Tennessee now. Here it feels like Summer from May to Mid October - sometimes later.
If I haven’t mentioned it before - I love horror movies - so this is my favorite time of the year. Time to get scared! I may do a list of my favorite horror movies one of these weeks as a bonus piece of content. Personally - I love the Found Footage genre. What about you? What are your favorite horror movies?
So - I’m starting something fun this week. I’d love to chat with more of you, and share more links! I’m starting a Discord server - and would love to have you join me. 😀 Click on the link to join The Land of Random. We’ll chat about cool websites, tech, and other cool stuff.
Well, grab that cup of hot joe or cold brew, and let’s dive on in! 😎
🍕Get Random Pizzas Every Month
Have you ever wished you could randomly have a pick me up without knowing when? It’s kind of like when your friend randomly comes over and brings food and dessert to share. Unexpected, but awesome! Your heart kinda bubbles up a little bit. 😀
Well, I discovered a cool project called “Random Pizza.” For $20 a month, you can have 2 pizzas delivered randomly - anywhere, to anyone.
It’s really cool! You could surprise friends, yourself, or anyone you’d like. This is one of those brilliant ideas that just make sense. After all, pizza is one of those universal foods that most people like. It’s heartwarming, delicious, and cheesy!
I’m not sure what the Profit Margin is. They pay for tip too. I’m sure it’s fairly small - unless we’re talking Hungry Howie’s, Little Ceasar’s, or [insert cheap pizza joint], but hey - profit is profit. This is essentially “Joy as a service.”
Also - their landing page is EPIC. It’s full of irony, humor, and very straightforward. No distractions - just Calls to Action. For example, check this out.
Yeah. This copy is awesome, and it gets you to laugh. The idea seems kinda silly, but it’s funny and - after all - why not get some random joy every month? Why not send some pizzas to a friend?
Also - Let’s talk about the great website structure.
Eye-Catching Banner + subtle animations
Humorous Idea Value Proposition - Why you should buy
The Process - The steps you need to take
Social Proof (and Social Proof Notifications) - Tweets from Buyers and live sales.
Call to Action and Funny Community Gif
Gumroad Payment Processing (Very Easy)
I love this website. It’s simple, but has all the elements necessary to sell you! Check it out at the link.
📱Embrace Winamp Nostalgia
Do you remember the good old days of Winamp? That Free Music Player from the old OLD days when you actually bought music - or “borrowed” it. (Yar Har Fiddle Dee Dee for pirates)
All you needed was some .mp3’s and you were off to the races. It had a visualizer, equalizer, and so much customization. Here - let the aesthetic wash over you. That vibrant green and all those retro buttons . . .
I bet you’re wondering. How did Winamp pop into my mind? I stumbled across a library of Winamp skins . . . And the nostalgia washed over me. From Super Mario to Neon Genesis Evangelion, there’s hundreds of awesome skins that people spent hours creating.
Here’s the link.
I just had to taste this nostalgia for myself again. So - I downloaded Winamp, customized it with a skin - and started playing some tunes. Wow! These were the days.
I thought to myself - wouldn’t it be fun if there was a way to stream Spotify in Winamp? Remix the past and present?
Well, it turns out that Spotify actually made a tribute to Winamp - and it was called “Spotiamp.” Yes. A engineer at Spotify actually made a officially supported tribute back in 2013!
So - I thought to myself - does this still exist? People on Reddit said that it still worked back in 2019, so surely I could find a link somewhere. The official Spotiamp website now has viruses on it - so don’t go there.
Turns out - it’s still hosted on the good ole Web Archive. Spotiamp 0.2 (Spotiamp 0.2.1 isn’t safe)
So - I took the risky plunge to download and install it. It worked! The next step was to enter my login info. 😱 I took a deep breath - and I did. Redditors are usually reputable when it comes to niche stuff like this.
I got a login notification on my Spotify account - which was a good sign.
And Wow! It actually worked. I can listen to music Winamp style with my Spotify playlists.
Here’s a screenshot. It’s even got that old Spotify green. It works too! I’ve been listening to my playlists in this old school wonder.
Now - I am in no way recommending doing this. I’m using a 6 year old - no longer supported Spotify player that I used my Login info for. In other words, if my account becomes compromised - it will be my own dang fault. I took the risk. If I lose 7 years of music - that’s 100% my fault!!
However, if nostalgia has consumed you and you’re hellbent on doing it too, reply to this email and we can chat about how it works.
🎵Discover New Music
While we’re on the topic of music - I found a music discovery app that looks pretty cool. Its goal is to become the Instagram of music discovery - which is still a market fresh for disruption. Other than TikTok, there really aren’t any platforms to help you find new music from your friends.
The last one I used was Soundwave Music Discovery - which Spotify bought several years ago. It was awesome - you could see what friends were listening to in real-time. I was honestly pretty upset when Spotify shut it down. It was a fun app.
Well, there’s a new app on the block called Bopdrop. Here’s their selling point
bopdrop is going to change the way you find & share music. Start the day by posting a song you love (or can't get out of your head). Listen to new songs posted by people you follow and discover even more music by exploring the feed. Add songs you want to save for later to your bopdrop playlist on Spotify. Send unlimited songs to your friends or forward songs to more users!
It’s very much in the spirit of Instagram - down to the layout. You share music (with playable samples) and people can like, comment, and so on.
Anyone who’s spent a decent amount of time in IG will have no problem using bopdrop. Just look at - it feels like an Instagram clone.
So - they’ve got ease of use - but can bopdrop get mass adoption? That’s the hard part. It got pretty high on the Apple App Store this weekm but many apps have come and gone.
Personally, I hope bopdrop does well. People want to find new music - and bopdrop provides the perfect way - without the distractions of dancing, art, or all the other content that TikTok offers.
Available now on the Apple store. Download it now!
🐙The Land of Random
Random links! So many to choose, but so little time.
Story Creator App
This neat web app makes video creation fast and simple. You know all those clean Gary Vee videos with awesome text and animations? Well, there’s definitely some similar vibes. It’s clean without spending hours in Adobe. I’ll definitely be trying out the free version.
Free Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Apparently Cinnamon Toast Crunch has been doing really well since the Pandemic. Well - with everyone working from home and possibly suffering from slight anxiety/depression - it’s no surprise to me that nostalgic childhood cereal sales have surged. If you fancy a free box via Venmo Rebate, get your free box at the official site!
Mario Warfare
Remember the good ole days of indie Youtubers making awesome Cheesy series? For whatever reason, Mario Warfare came across my feed the other week. If you’re down for some rediculous cheesy filmmaking that involves Mario, Guns, and nefarious plots, well - this one is for you.
Adidas and Lego Collab
Say no more . . .
Chill Vibes and Soft Clouds
You have to check out this collab between Poolside FM and Recess. It’s the most aesthetic website I’ve seen in a while. I recommend it as your new wallpaper. It’s so calm and cool!
yo bro is it safe down there in the woods? yeah man it's cool
Yes. That’s literally the name of this art piece by Tomislav Jagnjic - Very talented artist!
