Hey friends!
Welcome to this week’s edition of The Land of Random.
I can’t believe it but our son (our third child) turns one year old this week. How has the time flown by so quickly?? It feels like he was just a little baby yesterday.
And the other two will be beginning school soon . . .
Time is flowing by fast!
Did you hear that Imgur is deleting a ton of old content very soon? The dead internet link void will continue to grow . . .
RIP to all those “here’s how I fixed this electrical issue - pics in IMGUR link” threads.
Oh! Lofi Girl released a Medieval Lofi vid a few days ago. If you listened to any of the songs from last week - this’ll be right up your alley.
We’ve been enjoying the Fallout show! It’s been really well done so far - I’m sad we only have a few more episodes left to watch. The characters are written well, and i’m intrigued by all the twists and turns . . .
I still intend to watch Borderlands - regardless of the bad reviews. However, Alien: Romulus is first on my list of movies to watch in theater.
Hmm. Might as well start rewatching all the Alien movies. . .
Let’s dive in, shall we?
🕶Delorean Dreams
The original Delorean company is making a car that honestly looks nothing like a Delorean. I wrote about it last year if you’re interested.
However, a different company called Lynx Motors is creating an electric Delorean that actually looks like a Delorean.
Hey - it’s 2024 and Delorean is making a car that looks nothing like a Delorean, and a different company is making Electric Deloreans.
LOL
Just look at this beast. These are all new cars based on the old DMC-12.
Looks a lot like ye olde Delorean - but the interior is SICK.
In terms of range and such, it can go about 250 miles, 0-60 in around 4 seconds, AWD - but what we really care about is the aesthetics here.
The price starts (starts!!) at an eye-watering $300,000.
It’s pretty cool though! I look forward to seeing some of these get reviewed on Youtube in the future.
Check it out at the link.
👀Tinfoil Hats
Get out the tin foil hats because those birds aren’t real.
They’re the drone replicas ya know. (lol jk)
(In all seriousness drone birds might become a thing)
BUT if you’re in the market for a tin foil hat - you can NOW buy one. Check out this high-fashion bucket hat by OHMNI.
It’s designed to keep out electromagnetic radiation!
With its unique atomic structure, Copper offers exceptional electrical conductivity, deflecting electromagnetic waves such as Wi-Fi & 5G with up to 99.999% shielding effectiveness. Our Original Silver Street Shield ® textiles protect you from the numerous risks linked to electromagnetic radiation, restoring your autonomy and freedom, everynow. (source)
This is only the second fashion brand (capable.design) I’ve seen that’s selling cool privacy tech.
I’ve seen others - but they tend to be short lived art projects / one run only kind of stuff - like this one called Stealth Wear. There’s hype, multidues of thinkpieces - but the brands never really become anything.
OHMNI is committed to privacy enhancing clothes that look good AND work.
OHMNI is your last frontier at preserving your privacy, autonomy, and rights over your body and your data. This is not your artist foray into fashion. This is a necessity. (source)
OHMNI has a ton of different clothing items with their silver “shield” textiles woven in - from casual shirts to underwear, hoodies, and pants.
There’s a bunch of fun demos of how their material blocks phone signals and RFID chips.
I look forward to seeing how this brand (and hopefully more) grows in conjunction against our growing surveillance state.

🍕Franki the Food App
Google Reviews. TikTok videos. Instagram comments. Yelp???
Trying to figure out if a restaurant is any good can take some digging - from trying to find pictures to reading through reviews.
Even today in 2024 there’s no perfect solution. The whole “is X restaurant any good” question still requires research across multiple channels.
There’s a interesting app called Franki that feels like it could be the modern inheritor to “the old world” of text reviews.
Surely, one of these new apps will be the great inheritor of Yelp/Google Reviews legacy??
So - I downloaded Franki to see if it might be the fit.
It’s quite TikTokesque with a emphasis on vertical video. You can leave comments, like videos - the bones of an interesting app experience is there.
The coolest benefit of the app is a “cash back” you can get if you connect your card to the Franki App.
A lot of the restaurants in the Middle Tennessee area (Pasta and Cream in Franklin, Otaku Ramen in the Factory in Franklin, etc etc) have a 5% cashback offer.
The database powering Franki don’t appear to be up to date though - restaurants that no longer exist are highlighted with videos. (Americana Taphouse and Party Fowl no longer exist in Franklin).
AND - the users don’t appear to be there. Only a few users have posted in the Middle Tennessee area, and at least one of those is from “gigs” (Franki sponsored post challenges).
Comments also look fake.
Hmmmm…..
……
I think Franki has potential, but without significant downloads/usage this app will fade like all the others.
If you’re interested - I’d say it’s worth checking out to see if it has more usage in your area. It’s exceedingly lonely to be the only one using an app - so the only other draw is getting the 5% cashback from restaurants.

Found this little game release calendar that’ll show you what games are being released each day. It’s a fun little website!
You’re Doing Nothing
A timer for just that.
Traffic Cam Photobooth
Take selfies with traffic cameras. Why not?
Gamer Oldsmobile
This car has a WILD steering wheel. Oldsmobile was on to something . . .
Sublethal
While we’re on the subject of privacy protecting clothes, surveillance cameras, why not include a link about nonlethal turrets????
The Wayward Web
A webring for interesting links and websites. oooooooh.
That’s all for this week, unless - you want to watch the best riff on The Bear ever.
