Hey everyone! How are y’all doing this morning?
This weekend was pretty nuts - with that insane open sea hack. Absolutely NUTS. If you’re interested in diving in - check out this thread.
Definitely made me pause on how I handle wallet security.
If I ever get a blue chip (I.e. the next Bored Ape, Alien Frens, Doodle) I’m gonna put it in a cold wallet that I will NEVER connect to anything.
Have you seen Antlers yer? It’s a great horror-thriller that is so intense. It’s one of the best movies with Wendigos that I’ve seen.
In my humble opinion - it’s more on the thriller side - so if you don’t like horror per se - you should check it out!
It’s goooood.
I also watched the new found footage V/H/S 94 movie.
MUCH better than the last one - but with a pretty intense “body horror” 80’s vibe.
If you haven’t seen the VHS movies - they tend to have some sort of loose story that involves a series of creepy “tapes". The character inserts tape after tape as unsettling things happen in the background.
One of the short films involves a late-night wake at a funeral home - AND IT’S SO CREEPY. That one was probably my favorite . . .
Well, let’s hop on in - shall we?
🎶Create a Winamp Player
Ok - so in the past I’ve obsessed a bit about Winamp - from the Winamp skin museum to the Spotiamp music player.
I’ve even fantasized about building Winamp into an old cassette player . . .
Today I discovered that someone WENT AND DID IT. THEY MADE A WINAMP PLAYER.
It’s a little bitty Winamp music player - and it will play music too!
Now - it does have a few limitations. It isn’t fully interactive - like a tablet. You can only do play, pause, forward, and back track.
To make it you’ll need a Pyportal and an external speaker. It’ll require a bit of technical knowhow - but still within the realm of an afternoon project.
The Pyportal comes with a bunch of features - so you could probably add more functionality to the Winamp player if you wanted to!
The PyPortal Titano includes: speaker, light sensor, NeoPixel, microSD card slot, 8MB flash, plug-in ports for I2C and 2 analog/digital pins. Open-source hardware, and Open-Source software, CircuitPython and Arduino. The device shows up as a USB drive and the code (Python) can be edited in any IDE, text editor, etc. (source)
A physical Winamp Equalizer anyone?
Here - watch the demo.
Cool, right? Who doesn’t want a 10 hour playlist of Lofi playing via Winamp?
It would be fun to connect it to a speaker in old radio player . . .
Ohhhhh the retro vibes

📈Make a Market
Have you ever wanted to put your money where your mouth is?
Yeah - there’s sports betting, Crypto betting, and Stocks - among other things.
but what about putting $ on questions like - “When do you think Apple will release their AR/VR headset?”
Now you can - and create your own markets with Manifold Markets.
There are different markets for different categories - and you can create your own too!
For example - I could create one about Winamp - and ask questions like - Will Winamp ever return? Will someone ever create a functional real life winamp player with all the bells and whistles?
To me - placing a bet on a question like this is MUCH more interesting (to me personally) than sports.
Here’s a bet in progress regarding the Queen of England.
You can buy YES or NO - and bet any amount of the coin that you wish. You can leave a comment underneath your bet explaining why you bet a particular way.
Can you imagine the insights you could glean from looking at other’s reasons for betting one way or another? The research people would gather? It could be awesome.

🥕Veganize Any Recipe
Ever wanted to create a meat free version of a recipe, but not sure what you would substitute?
Eat Kind has created a really nifty tool for recipe substitution.
To test it - I went and grabbed a recipe for Steak and Shrimp Stir fry and entered it in the bar.
It appears that it spits out answers based the keywords that it finds within the recipe - and then offers potential substitutes.
I haven’t heard of half of these products - so there’s a lot to check out in here.
Here’s what it spit out for this chocolate cake recipe - It started out with a ton of milk substitutes.
So - I just directly entered the ingredient egg - and voila! Egg substitutes.
It looks like a ton of features are planned for the upcoming apps - and they’ve recently released a chrome extension.
I’m excited to see how the product develops in the months to come!

Read the Timemachiner
I’ve discovered fellow Random newsletter! I chatted with Aaron last week about all the cool content that he curates each week. He creates articles about interesting content that he finds on the net - and does a awesome deep dive. For instance - in the last issue he dove into the decline of catalogue showrooms. I didn’t know those were a thing! Go subscribe at the link.
