It’s a brand new week my friends! Is it just me or has April flown by?

I’ve been watching a lot of crazy movies recently. You see, I stay up till 3-4 AM on Friday and Saturday nights so my wife can sleep while I stay up with the baby.

Tonight I’ve watched Pet Semetary, I Frankenstein, some low-budget post-apocalyptic film, and I’m currently watching Treasure Planet.

Treasure Planet is actually pretty good! Why does no one talk about this film? (Maybe this has something to do with the fact that it’s 3 AM?)

Anyway, I hope you’re all doing well this week. I’ve found some pretty cool stuff for y’all, so sit back, relax, and grab another cup of coffee!

Fancy building a Smart Mirror?

Let me explain.

Basically, it’s a mirror that displays notifications like weather, news, and other useful morning details.

It’s a project that I’ve always had my eye on, and I was just recently reminded of it by TikTok. This guy built his own magic mirror - and it looks really good. https://vm.tiktok.com/7WVQWW/

I honestly don’t understand why Google or Amazon have released a smart mirror yet. They are literally a ā€œcash cowā€ waiting to happen. There are indie hackers who have built Smart Mirrors with Youtube, Spotify, and other apps!

Yeah - there’s some fitness and beauty mirrors that are coming into play, but no proper Smart Mirrors. Go Google ā€œSmart Mirrors.ā€ Most of the first page is tutorials!

I plan to build my own someday. That’s the dream anyway!

Heck, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to build these and sell them. You can easily create one for under $150 - and I’m sure plenty of people would happily pay $250 for one! Could be a profitable little side hustle . . .

šŸŽ™ Host A Live Talkshow

When I first heard about this app, I was surprised one hadn’t come out sooner. I love hosting my Podcast - but the idea of ā€œcalling inā€ like the Talkshows of AM radio can be difficult to pull off with decent audio quality.

You can listen in to other hosts Talkshows or host your own. It could be a pretty useful way to do a special once a month ā€œcall in with your questionsā€ kind of show. I look forward to trying it out soon! I want to test out how practical it is. Would people actually be willing to download the app to participate? Would the friction be worth it to your most loyal audience members? All good questions to explore!

It’s really new, and not many people know about it yet. I wonder - will it gain traction in the Podcasting community, or will it perish?

šŸ˜Ž Image Glitch Tool

Ever wanted to glitch out your photos and make them all aesthetic and vaporwavey? Well, I’ve found the perfect (and easiest) tool for you! This web app allows you to make simple glitch effects to your photos - and gives you a little control over how it functions.

I end up slowly sliding the controls until I find a style I like - and download it. It’s difficult (perhaps impossible) to find the exact same combination of elements twice.

It does work on mobile, but I think it’s best experienced on desktop.

šŸ™The Land of Random

I don’t know why, but for some reason games seemed to be on the mind this week . . .

šŸ”« Savage Fallout NPC’s

There’s a glitch in the latest Fallout game that allows NPC’s (friendly or foe) to take weapons from your body - that you can’t get back - ever. They loot your corpse and that epic gun you found is gone. It belongs to them now - even if you kill them. It’s a pretty wild bug if you ask me . . . and I must ask the question. Could it be a feature in hardcore mode?

šŸ“± A E-Ink Smartphone

I don’t know why, but the idea of a E-ink screen smartphone has always seemed pretty cool. It feels so minimalist. There’s only a very few companies who have played with this idea. Check out this Hisene A 5 Eink. It Actually runs Android on an Eink screen. A niche within a niche.

šŸŽ„ Use Your Android Phone as a Webcam

If you’re sick of blurry zoom calls, give this idea a chance! Try using an old Android Phone (or your current one) as an external Webcam for your conference calls.

😹 An Infinitely Amusing Video

I laugh every time I watch this.
